‘Great Place’ funding awarded

Barnsley Market Charter Roll on display at Experience Barnsley

A unique document, crucial to Barnsley’s past, will be on display in Experience Barnsley for the first time from Monday 30 January 2017.

The 13th century Charter Roll, recording Barnsley being granted a market, is a fascinating piece of the town’s history.

BARNSLEY MUSEUMS HERITAGE TRUST HOST FIRST EVER SANTA DASH

It is hoped people will don Santa suits and take part in the first ever Barnsley Museums Heritage Trust Santa Dash on Saturday, 3 December.

People of all ages are invited to take part in the 200m dash, which begins at eleven am, individually or as part of a team. They can go at their own pace and in their own way. This could be walk, run, skate, scooter or wheelchair, the race is open to all.

HRH THE DUKE OF KENT KG VISITS COOPER GALLERY

It was a memorable occasion for the Cooper Gallery this week, as His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent, KG paid a visit.

His Royal Highness was there to take a guided tour of the newly extended gallery and view the Yorkshire With Love exhibition, which is running until 24 December showcasing work from Yorkshire artists and designers for sale for Christmas.

Talented Yorkshire artists and makers are selling unique and individually made items at an exclusive exhibition in the newly transformed Cooper Gallery until Saturday, 24 December.

Up until Christmas Eve the stunning gallery space will be filled with beautiful gift ideas ranging from jewellery, textiles, ceramics and wooden products to glassware, accessories and stunning photographs. It is perfect for those looking for a more relaxed shopping experience away from the hustle and bustle of the crowded high street.

Prepare for a scare at Worsbrough Mill this Halloween

Chilling tales of unspeakable horror will be uncovered on the Worsbrough Mill ‘Witching Hour’ interactive ghost walks.

Taking place between Friday, 28 and Monday, 31 October, those brave enough to take part will be guided around one of Barnsley’s most atmospheric sites on a spine chilling tour.

Have a scarily good time at Barnsley Museums this half term

Visitors will have a frightfully good time at Barnsley Museums this half term. There will be everything from bats, baking, sketching and monster masks to lantern making, storytelling, terrifying trails and Maleficent's Halloween Ball, plus much more.

Experience Barnsley will be a hive of ghostly goings on from Monday, 24 October until Saturday, 29 October. Free activities include a spooktacular crafts such as paper pumpkins, gruesome monster masks, trick or treat baskets and Halloween storytelling.

James Martin arrives at Elsecar

TV celebrity chef James Martin will be appearing at Elsecar’s Flavours Food Festival on Sunday, 23 October.

The spectacular one day event will see the unique historical site of Elsecar transformed into a bustling food and drinks market, offering a wide variety of tasty treats and delicious beverages.

Cannon Hall Museum celebrates their canine visitors by holding a Very Important Dog Day

As part of their current exhibition, Park Life, Cannon Hall Museum, park and gardens will be hosting their very first Very Important Dog Day.

This interactive exhibition celebrates the importance of green spaces and the many furry, four legged friends who visit them. In honour of their doggie visitors, Cannon Hall, would like to invite them and their owners to the stunning Georgian country house on Monday, 24 October, between 11am and 3pm. Here they will be allowed into the Hall for the first time to take a peek. Those dogs attending will be one of the first to have access into the gallery space at this unique one off event.
