Bard of Barnsley pens special poem for Experience Barnsley Festival

20th June 2018

We’re delighted to share with you this special poem to celebrate Experience Barnsley Festival (23rd to 30th June), penned by the Bard of Barnsley, Ian McMillan. Ian is a trustee of Barnsley Museums & Heritage Trust and we’re really grateful for all his support.

YOU CAN’T SHIFT FOR HERITAGE ROUND THESE PARTS

This is something close to all our hearts:
You can’t shift for Heritage round these parts.

Walk out of any house round here,
And stroll into Heritage; each street
Is paved with the past’s footprints
Walking through the present
To a future they set in motion.

Look out of any window round here
And gaze across Heritage; each scene
Is piled high with the past’s luggage
Going round on time’s carousel
Just waiting for you to claim it.

Admission to the museums is free of charge and we ask for donations to enable the museums to create access to the collections, retell Barnsley’s stories and provide wonderful things to do for people of all ages.

Please join us for Experience Barnsley Festival and make a donation as part of your visit. Download the Experience Barnsley Festival Event Programme
