Best boots forward – Find out more about Barnsley Football Club at the towns Museum

14th December 2016

This October half-term, visitors to Experience Barnsley will be treated to a new and exciting redisplay about Barnsley Football Club.

On display will be objects and memorabilia which reflect the clubs historic milestones, including their promotion to the Premiership in 1997 and to the Championship in 2016.

Star objects include a pair of football boots worn by Captain Conor Hourihane during the 2015/16 season.  These have been kindly loaned from Paul Batley, Manager of Staincross Rangers. Other objects include loans from supporters and pieces from the museum’s own collection such as cigarette cards, memorabilia from the clubs terrific 2015/16 season, football boots, shirts and other objects.

While visiting people can also take part in the free family activities which are happening during the school holidays.

Cllr Roy Miller, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place, said: “Barnsley Football Club is an important part of the town’s rich history.  It is great to see them doing so well and they are making their supporters proud. The display in Experience Barnsley celebrates their fantastic achievements and visitors can learn more about their journey throughout the years.  People coming along can also take part in the variety of free family activities that regularly take place in the Learning Lab during the school holidays.”
