Royal Visits and Celebrations – A Film to Mark the Platinum Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II
As the Jubilee celebrations approached, Michael Hardy (Digital Engagement Curator at Barnsley Museums) explored the museum collections to look back on times when Her Majesty had visited Barnsley and how the Borough came together to celebrate.
Michael found photographs of the celebrations across Barnsley leading up to the coronation on 2nd June 1953, the Queen’s first visit to Barnsley in October 1954 and subsequent visits in 1975 and 1977 – her Silver Jubilee year.
