Elsecar Heritage Centre wins Prestigious Award
10th December 2024
We are really excited to share that the Sensory tour developed during the Elsecar Building Bridges project has won the Emerging Cultural Project award at the Research Impact and Engagement Awards at the University of Leeds.
Working in collaboration with the Barnsley Blind and Partially Sighted Association to create new sensory tours for the Heritage Centre. Adam and his team have developed tactile resources of historic maps and used geophysics data from previous Elsecar projects that Tegwen Roberts delivered. The geophysics research related to the former Gasworks in the village and represents the history and heritage buried underground with this project helping to bring it to life for our visitors.
This project has been so rewarding, working with the University of Leeds and the Barnsley Blind Association. A well deserved win, so pleased the research and consultation work has made a difference to the local community and future visitors to Elsecar!
We would love to share another massive thank you to the BBPSA and the University of Leeds for their support. If you are interested or know someone that would like to find out more about the Heritage of the site then please get in touch to learn more about our new sensory tours.
The Building Bridges project is supported by the The National Lottery Heritage Fund and the Barnsley Museums & Heritage Trust.
