Barnsley Museums Easter Activities

Barnsley Museums have an eggcellent Easter planned with lots of eggciting activities happening across the five, free museums, starting this March.  

Over at Elsecar Heritage Centre, take part in the Elsecar Easter Egg-Stravaganza Trail between 29th March and 21st April between 10am and 4pm, where you can embark on a delightful quest to find the hidden bunnies scattered throughout the venue. Each bunny holds a clue that will help you solve the special Easter puzzle. As you explore, enjoy the festive atmosphere filled with colourful decorations, cheerful music, and plenty of photo opportunities. Whether you’re a master puzzle solver or just looking for a fun way to celebrate the holiday, this trail is perfect for you. 

Join Cannon Hall Museum, Park & Gardens for a delightful scavenger hunt where you can spot all the hidden objects around the Victorian Kitchens. Each object tells a story and reveals fascinating facts about how Easter was celebrated in years gone by. From intricate decorations to traditional Easter treats, you’ll uncover the rich history and customs that made Victorian Easter so special. This event running from 5th to 21st April between 11am and 4pm is perfect for history enthusiasts, families, and anyone looking to learn more about Easter traditions. 

Running alongside the trails at Elsecar Heritage Centre and Cannon Hall Museum, Experience Barnsley have their own scavenger hunt from 5th to 21st April between 10am and 4pm. Embark on an exciting adventure through the museum as you search for all the cool and crazy objects hidden within the collections. As you explore the exhibits, keep your eyes peeled for unique and fascinating items that tell incredible stories from history, science, art, and more. This interactive scavenger hunt is perfect for curious minds, offering a fun and educational experience. 

On 8th April Experience Barnsley are hosting Brillian Board Games. People have been making and playing board games for centuries, from the Ancient Egyptians playing Senet to families today playing classics such as Hungry Hippos and Monopoly. Why not drop in to have a go at inventing your own game to take home?

Unleash your creativity and join Cooper Gallery on 9th April for a fun-filled crafting session inspired by the stunning artworks in their “Four Seasons in One Day” Exhibition. This hands-on activity invites you to craft your own funky flowers, drawing inspiration from the vibrant colours, intricate designs, and beautiful themes showcased in the exhibition.  

Step into a world of creativity and play at Experience Barnsley’s interactive Cardboard Creations event celebrating the “Stories of Childhood” exhibition on 13th April. Let your creativity run wild as you construct amazing structures using simple cardboard boxes. Challenge yourself and your friends by designing and building your very own maze game. Take on the marble run challenge and see how far you can get your marble to travel. This event is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the joy and wonder of childhood through playful and educational activities. 

The Cooper Gallery and Experience Barnsley are each hosting Relaxed Openings on 15th April, which are designed for visitors who would prefer a quieter experience in the museum. Sensory backpacks and sunflower lanyards are available from the front desk for visitors who wish to borrow them for the duration of your visit. 

If you fancy getting creative, head to The World Underneath creative model making workshop at Worsbrough Mill to imagine the mysteries beneath the water on 17th April. Worsbrough’s reservoir was built over 200 years ago changing the landscape dramatically. This fun, hands on workshop will share the possibilities of fact and fiction and help children consider how people make a mark on the world around them.
