Support BMHT Through the Co-op Local Community Fund

13th May 2026

We are delighted to be part of the Co-op Local Community Fund helping us continue delivering arts, heritage, and wellbeing projects across the borough.

This year, your support will help us work with the Elsecar community to uncover and celebrate the village’s lesser-known history. Local people have told us they want to learn more about places and stories that are often overlooked, including the old gasworks, archaeological discoveries, and Elsecar’s historic connection with Wentworth.

Through community workshops, local research, and school sessions, we will bring residents together to collect stories, memories, and local knowledge before they are lost. The project will also create accessible community information boards, shaped by local people and designed to help everyone engage with Elsecar’s heritage.

Accessibility is a key part of the project, and we will continue working alongside Barnsley Blind Association to ensure interpretation is inclusive and accessible for visually impaired residents and visitors.

The project will also encourage people to explore the walking routes linking Elsecar and Wentworth, promoting the positive impact walking and local green spaces can have on physical and mental wellbeing.

By choosing BMHT as your Co-op cause, you are helping preserve local history, support community wellbeing, and make heritage accessible to everyone.
