Penistone Library reopens after refurbishment
13th May 2026
Penistone Library reopened on 20 April and along with an enhanced children’s area including a colourful design featuring a vibrant mural of Penistone railway viaduct and the surrounding rolling hills.
There is improved access to the Dransfield Collection, a significant local history resource for Penistone. The collection was donated to Penistone Library by local historian John Ness Dransfield in 1914 and has many unique items relating to the local area.
The library is open every day except Sunday and there is a range of regular activities for both children and adults.
The new ‘Archive Room’ has more than double the space than before and gives a more comfortable place for users to browse the collection. Access can be arranged by contacting a member of staff at Penistone Library either in person or by viewing contact details on the Penistone Library webpage https://www.barnsley.gov.uk/services/libraries/find-a-library/penistone-library
