Celebrating Volunteers This Christmas
11th December 2025
Barnsley Museums recently held their annual Volunteers’ Christmas Party at Cannon Hall Museum, bringing together volunteers from across their sites for a festive celebration. We were delighted to attend and join in recognising the incredible contribution volunteers make throughout the year.
The day offered plenty for everyone to enjoy, with festive crafts, guided tours of the museum, and engaging insights into the history of Cannon Hall’s parklands and gardens. These activities provided a relaxed and welcoming space for volunteers to connect, learn, and share experiences with one another.
Guests also enjoyed a delicious buffet provided by The Pear Tree Pantry, which was thoroughly enjoyed and added to the warm, sociable atmosphere of the event.
Beyond the celebrations, the day was also a reminder of the wider importance of volunteering. Volunteering offers more than practical support – it can play a powerful role in supporting positive mental health and wellbeing. By bringing people together, reducing isolation, and creating a sense of purpose and belonging, volunteering helps individuals build confidence, make meaningful connections and feel part of something bigger.
Events like this highlight the strong community at the heart of Barnsley. It was wonderful to see so many people coming together, celebrating their shared commitment, and enjoying a moment to reflect on the positive impact volunteering has – not only on the museums, but on personal wellbeing too.
