Pear Day is back at Cannon Hall

11th September 2025

Pear Day returns to Cannon Hall Museum on Sunday 21st September from 10am to 4pm, bringing with it a much-loved celebration of the estate’s heritage pear varieties. Set against the stunning backdrop of Cannon Hall Museum, Park and Gardens, the event is free to attend and offers a wonderful, family-friendly day out.

Visitors can look forward to a day full of activity and atmosphere. Little Hummingbird’s Outdoor Market will fill the grounds with local makers, crafters and bakers, offering everything from delicious treats to unique handmade gifts. In the Victorian Kitchen, hands-on demonstrations between 11:30am and 2:30pm will give curious minds the chance to step back in time and discover how food was prepared in the past.

For younger visitors, the magical Mountain Witch performance by Speedwell Dance promises an unforgettable experience. This playful and interactive tale invites children aged three to eight to join musicians and dancers on an immersive adventure, with live music on clarinet, flute and cello transforming the performance space into a magical realm. Performances take place at 11:30am and 2pm, with tickets priced at £6 per child and available to pre-book here

Of course, at the heart of the day are Cannon Hall’s historic pears, carefully nurtured in the estate’s walled kitchen garden and celebrated for their unique heritage. Families can enjoy wandering the parkland, exploring the museum, browsing the market stalls, and learning more about these wonderful varieties that connect Cannon Hall to its rich horticultural history.

Pear Day is free to attend and offers the perfect opportunity to celebrate the harvest, enjoy the beautiful surroundings, and spend a joyful day together. Head to Cannon Hall on Sunday 21st September to celebrate the best of local heritage, produce and community spirit.
