Have a scarily good time at Barnsley Museums this half term

Visitors will have a frightfully good time at Barnsley Museums this half term.  There will be everything from bats, baking, sketching and monster masks to lantern making, storytelling, terrifying trails and Maleficent’s Halloween Ball, plus much more.

Experience Barnsley will be a hive of ghostly goings on from Monday, 24 October until Saturday, 29 October.  Free activities include a spooktacular crafts such as paper pumpkins, gruesome monster masks, trick or treat baskets and Halloween storytelling.

Budding artists will want to pay a trip to the Cooper Gallery between Thursday, 27 and Friday, 28 October. At the Half Term Art Club visitors can join an artist and explore the artwork in the newly transformed Cooper Gallery.  They will also learn how to use different materials each day and create a frightfully good sketch.  Also at the gallery will be Enchanted Forest Lantern Making on Saturday, 29 October.  People can book onto a special family workshop to create their very own paper cut lantern, inspired by tales of Hansel and Gretel.

Will people dare to visit creepy Cannon Hall this Halloween? Throughout the week there will be lots of devilish things to do.  Saturday, 22 until Sunday, 30 October (with the exception of Monday 24 October) little visitors can come along and take part in their Eerie Bat Trail.  Visitors can explore the spooktacular rooms of the Hall and hunt out the bats which lurk in every corner.  Little visitors can also pay a trip to the Victorian kitchens on Saturday, 29 October.  Here they can make bloodcurdling treats perfect for Halloween parties.  Who could resist eating crispy brains and edible eyeballs…

People can kick start the Halloween holidays at Worsbrough Mill.  All week little ones can come along and meet Ragwart, the Mill’s resident witch.  Ragwart has put a spell on the Mill to protect her hidden gold and anyone who enters will be cursed.  For those brave enough to collect the clues hidden in the Mill there will be a reward.  Bigger kids and adults can come along to the Mill between Friday, 28 and Monday, 31 October for their scarily good interactive ghost walks. Visitors will uncover chilling tales of unspeakable horror as spectres and ghouls try and claim their soul…

Elsecar will see the arrival of Maleficent’s Halloween Ball on Saturday, 29 October.  She will fly into Elsecar for a fun character disco and be joined by her magical friends as well as Little Mix, Olly Murs and Justin Bieber.  They will take centre stage to create a Halloween to remember.
