Elsecar Heritage Centre is getting a makeover!

19th April 2024

Early this summer, a major project will begin to improve our wonderful heritage attraction at Elsecar, conserving buildings and creating new spaces for people to enjoy. Through the project, new creative studios in unused historic spaces, new museum galleries co-curated with local residents, and new indoor and outdoor areas for events, community and cultural activity will be made. It will also improve public spaces, creating areas for people to relax and spend time in.

Elsecar will remain open throughout the work, which will see minimal disruption, and you can still visit all of the amazing businesses including our independent shops, antiques centre, playspace, beer tap and cafes, who will be open as usual.

While The Ironworks event space will be closed for a while, look out for some exciting new outdoor experiences throughout the summer. The Ironworks will reopen later in the year with major improvements that make it an even better space for events.

The work has been made possible thanks to the Cultural Development Fund (CDF), a £3.93M initiative supported by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, delivered by Arts Council England. The fund aims to invest in the creative potential of places and enhance their cultural offer.
