Routed at Experience Barnsley, Barnsley Town Hall 23rd October 2021 – 26th March 2022
4th November 2021
“beautiful, and funny, and heart-warming”
The Routed exhibition is currently at Experience Barnsley, and celebrates people, places and memories associated with Barnsley town centre, through writing, illustration, objects, poetry, photography, music and sculpture.
This vibrant exhibition presents heritage using contemporary design alongside eclectic visuals to appeal to a diverse audience.
The exhibition is the culmination of a 15-month large scale heritage project funded by the National Heritage Lottery Fund. The project celebrates the people who live, work, study, shop and socialise in the Town Centre. Routed was launched in the midst of the pandemic and developed and adapted to working virtually and remotely, managing to reach out and forge connections with individuals and community groups to gather their Town Centre memories and stories.
A further outcome of the project is a trail of contemporary artworks that have been inspired by shared memories and architectural features from across the town centre. The trail is due for installation before the end of the year.
The Routed project and exhibition has been delivered by Lenny and Whale, an Artists and Creative producer partnership in collaboration with Barnsley Museum Heritage Trust.
