Worsbrough 400 – A Celebration Through STEAM – Amazelab competition

23rd March 2026

Back in January, Amazelab invited schools, community groups and home educators to take part in a self-led STEAM challenge celebrating the rich history, science and creativity of Worsbrough Mill. The challenge was to create a STEAM powered tribute to the mill, such as:

  • A working model e.g. a water wheel or grain grinder
  • Creative interpretation e.g. sculpture or animation
  • A maths or science investigation e.g. forces or ratios
  • A piece of art or storytelling, blending history with innovation

Judging took place in February, and the judges were blown away by the quality of the entries.

All the entrants were invited to a celebration event at Worsbrough Mill on 4th March to showcase their work, and everyone received a prize for taking part. The winners were announced and received their prizes from one of the judges, Lady Rowena Stuart-Wortley, Deputy Lieutenant of Barnsley.

After the prize giving and admiring all the models, everyone was very happy to have a piece of cake!
