The Wild Escape – Earth Day Celebrations
8th May 2023
You may remember from an earlier newsletter that Barnsley Museums joined The Wild Escape, a major new project uniting hundreds of museums with schools and families to fund nature in museums, led by national art charity, Art Fund.
As part of the programme, Barnsley Museums Learning Team worked with pupils from Birdwell to explore Worsbrough’s nature and biodiversity. The students created wire damselflies inspired by their exploration of the site and added their climate pledges to a giant willow ‘Earth.’
You can see artworks created by Birdwell pupils and even create your own on the Wild Escape website https://takepart.thewildescape.org.uk/explore
Members of the Opening Doors volunteer group also added their pledge and, on the Saturday, families were welcomed to the site to also add their climate pledges to the Earth and take part in Earth day crafts.
Alongside this Oak Forest school worked with families to create bug disks to decorate the Waggonway glade thanks to funding from the Ragdoll Trust secured by Barnsley Museums and Heritage Trust.
