Looking for ways to keep curious minds and creative hands busy this February half term? From art trails and crafty drop-ins to hands-on workshops and heritage-inspired fun, there’s plenty happening across Barnsley for children and families to enjoy – all with free activities included.
Kids in Museums Art School Trail
Cooper Gallery | 14 – 21 February
Designed for children aged 9 and over, this playful gallery trail puts a creative twist on the traditional museum spotter activity. Each stop along the trail unlocks a ‘museum mission’, encouraging children to look closely at artworks from the Cooper collection and talk about what they see in fun and imaginative ways.
The trail includes conversation prompts focused on slow looking, outfits, and food in artworks – helping young visitors engage with art in fresh and exciting ways.

Birdy Drop-In Crafts
Wentworth Castle Gardens | 16 – 20 February | 11am – 3pm
Get creative this half term with bird-themed craft sessions inspired by Wentworth Castle Gardens’ feathered residents. These family-friendly drop-in workshops invite children to make and take home their own bird-inspired creations.
Sessions take place in the Blackbourn Room in the Conservatory building.
Free activity, with normal venue admission charges applying.
Creative Celebration Day at Worsbrough Mill
Learning Hut, Worsbrough Mill | 19 February
Celebrate the heritage of Worsbrough Mill through creativity at this free, drop-in celebration day. Enjoy a range of hands-on activities led by local artists and creatives, all designed to bring the story of the mill to life in engaging and imaginative ways.
A perfect opportunity to try something new, get inspired, and enjoy a vibrant community atmosphere.

Vroom! FREE Drop-In Workshop
Experience Barnsley | 20 February | 10am–12pm & 1pm–3pm
Ready, get set, go! As part of the Together at the Town Hall event, families are invited to build their own moving toy car in this fun, hands-on workshop – then race it to the finish line.
