Fusion’s Arts Award Explore receives funding from Barnsley Museums and Heritage Trust

8th May 2025

Funding has recently been awarded by Barnsley Museums and Heritage Trust to Fusion, Barnsley’s Local Cultural Education Partnership, to enable them to expand the excellent work achieved under the Arts Award Explore programme, delivered as part of the Festival of Joy.

The project works with 10 primary schools in the Borough to deliver Arts Awards Explore to over 300 pupils, enabling children to engage with arts and culture and giving them the opportunity to visit Barnsley’s cultural venues.

Feedback from the previous programme has shown that participation in the scheme had an extraordinary impact on the social and emotional competence and wellbeing of pupils.

The end of the project is celebrated with a presentation event and exhibition at Horizon Community College where pupils have the opportunity to showcase their work to their families and the wider community. It’s a wonderful, joyous event where all the pupils are visibly brimming with pride to receive their award from the mayor.

Barnsley Museums and Heritage Trust are passionate about supporting the promotion of arts and culture, especially with the young people of Barnsley, as we know what positive impacts this can have on wellbeing and future aspirations. We are therefore delighted to be able to help with the continuation of this amazing project.
