Enjoy a slice of 80s heaven on Barnsley Museums latest virtual tour
23rd November 2020
Although the doors to Experience Barnsley Museum and Discovery Centre may be closed for a little while, visitors can still enjoy a slice of 80s heaven on a live virtual tour with Matt Fox, creator of the exhibition ‘I Grew Up in the 80s’.
The free tour which can be experienced from the comfort of people’s homes, will be live on the museums Facebook page on Tuesday 27 November at 7pm. It celebrates one of the most memorable decades of music, movies and technology.
Currently closed due to Covid restrictions, the exhibition contains over 2000 iconic objects from the decade. The collection is too good to be kept behind closed doors, so the museum is offering people the opportunity to explore the exhibition through a cutting edge 360 tour.
As they are guided around the exhibition by Matt, they can listen to the best tunes from the decade on the jukebox wall, see film clips from classic movies and take a look at everything from Betamax, Raleigh Burner BMX and Rubik’s Cube™ to the Sinclair ZX Spectrum and Transformer toys. Fabulous memories are guaranteed to come flooding back.
Alongside the exhibition there is a fun digital booklet available on the Experience Barnsley website and social media channels, packed with awesome 80’s activities that will keep people entertained for hours. The booklet will also be available from the museum gift shop when it reopens its doors.
Cllr Tim Cheetham, Cabinet Spokesperson for Place (Regeneration and Culture) said: “Barnsley Museums’ always strive to be as accessible as possible. They want to share their collections and exhibitions with people even though they are closed and this 360 tour is the perfect way to do it. Everyone needs a smile right now and this exhibition will do just that, we are sure people will want to see it in person when museum opens its doors.”
