Elsecar Building Bridges Project – Celebration Event
24th October 2024
Barnsley Museums would love to invite everyone to the Elsecar Building Bridges end of project celebration, launching the digital bridge projection onto one of the buildings at Elsecar Heritage Centre. Over the course of the project, they have been researching and learning about the history of two bridges cast at the Milton Ironworks, designed by Marc Brunel and transported to a French Island in the Indian Ocean, La Reunion.
They have worked with many community groups, schools and families during the last few months to build cardboard bridges and learn about this fascinating history. Working with artist Wayne Sables, the light projection will showcase the research and story of these two bridges.
The evening will be an opportunity to celebrate all parts of the project, which includes the hard work of our volunteers, the development of our People’s Archive and 1980 Elsecar Main digital video.
Date: Wednesday 30 October
Time: 5pm onwards
Venue: Elsecar Heritage Centre
The project has been made possible thanks to generous support from National Lottery Heritage Fund and Barnsley Museums and Heritage Trust.
