Discover the Joy of Volunteering at Elsecar Heritage Centre
16th April 2025
Have you ever thought about volunteering? If so, you might want to join the fantastic group of volunteers at Elsecar Heritage Centre!
Sessions run on Mondays and Thursdays from 10am till 2pm. Activities range from working outdoors assisting with litter picks and helping to create new habitats to preserving the green spaces and keeping the village clean and tidy. They also work as a group to help with the maintenance of the historic Newcomen Engine, the only one still in its original location in the world.
Volunteering at Elsecar helps you to meet new people and gives you opportunities to get involved in training from first aid, oral history interviewing, customer service, tour guiding to digital or functional skills (Maths, English). You can use this opportunity as a chance to learn new skills or as a step towards employment. This support is delivered as part of Skills & Employability South Yorkshire in partnership with Barnsley Council and Barnsley Museums.
For more information, please contact the team by emailing museumvolunteering@barnsley.gov.uk or pop into our temporary Visitor Centre located between Veetreo Glass and Maison Du Biere.
