Carlton Primary Takeover Cannon Hall as part of Fusion’s Festival of Joy
13th November 2024
As part of Fusion’s Festival of Joy, Barnsley Museums will be handing over the keys to Cannon Hall (temporarily!) to Carlton Primary School’s Year 5 class as they take over the site for Kids in Museums Takeover Day.
For Friday 22nd November only, the new temporary Front of House staff will give visitors a warm welcome before the highly skilled trainee Learning Assistants and engaging Visitor Service Assistants show you how to make traditional Victorian Christmas decorations and delight you with original stories based on Cannon Hall’s ceramic collection. Come and join in the fun and find out what they have in store as we get taken over!
“I’m looking forward to meeting people when they come to Takeover Day and showing them how to make the Christmas crafts.”
“We’ve been learning what to say to visitors when they come to Cannon Hall Museum so we can make them feel welcome and show them we’re glad they’ve chosen to come.” Trainee Front of House Team Member, Year 5, Carlton Primary School
- 22nd November 11-2.30pm (the pupils will be having lunch between 12 and 12.45pm)

Festival of Joy
Fusion’s Festival of Joy has already engaged around 2,500 children and young people across 30+ performances including Opera North Big Sing (organised by Music Education Hub), Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra and WE Great Ladies at Wentworth Woodhouse’s Tales from the Past, Barnsley Schools Drama Festival, Arts Award Explore Programme with 9 schools. In addition, over 40 young ambassadors have been involved in the commissioning process for new commissions from artists Radi8arts, Story Tales with Beccy Dye and Studio Bokehgo.
Supported by Barnsley Museums and Heritage Trust, Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council Children’s Services and Arts Council England, the Festival aims to give children and young people from some of the most deprived areas in Barnsley the opportunity to co-produce, access and participate in a high quality cultural and artistic programme of events and activities organised by Fusion partner. The Festival is also providing a platform to digitally and physically showcase young artistic talent.
