Cannon Hall Museum Showcases Barnsley College Talent
5th June 2024
Cannon Hall Museum and Barnsley College have teamed up to showcase the creativity and skill of local fashion students who have designed and made costumes inspired by the museum’s latest blockbuster exhibition – Costumes from the Classics.
The exhibition features costumes from iconic films such the Duchess, The Danish Girl and Little Women all loaned by Cosprop, one of the world’s leading costumiers for the film, television and theatre industries.
As part of the exhibition, first year students from Barnsley College’s Fashion and Textiles course were invited to create their own gowns based on the themes and styles of the films, and also the collection at Cannon Hall Museum.
The students’ costumes were appraised by Cosprop, who gave them feedback and advice on their designs and techniques.
Three of the costumes, by Madison Hinchliffe, Amber Lakeland and Beth Walch, have been selected to be displayed alongside the original film costumes at the museum, as a testament to their talent and innovation.
Madison Hinchliffe, the overall winner, said ‘: “I have really enjoyed this project and am very happy to have it displayed at Cannon Hall alongside the period costumes from the films made by Cosprop which is truly amazing. I am so grateful to have had this opportunity and can’t wait to see it on display properly.”
The exhibition runs until Sunday, 15 September and is free to enter.
