Barnsley Museums Awarded Level One Race In Heritage Award

6th June 2023

A joint venture between Black Cultural Archives and Inclusive Boards, the Race in Heritage Award is the only initiative in the United Kingdom that recognises and awards Arts, Culture and Heritage organisations that are actively working to improve the representation, progression, and succession of global majority staff and volunteers in the sector.

Level One award recipients have been independently assessed and recognised to be actively engaging with issues of race in the workplace across key recruitment themes; engagement, communication, and culture; and progressing talent from within.

The award is just one example of Barnsley Museum’s commitment to inclusivity and representation.

Jon Finch, Head of Culture and Visitor Economy, said: “We are delighted to have received this award. Inclusivity and representation are hugely important to us here in Barnsley Museums and something we fully embed in our culture and processes.  We are working hard to improve in any way we can and will strive to do more in the future.”
