A Space For Change @ Worsbrough!

7th July 2023

A new volunteer hub will be created at Worsbrough Mill thanks to funding from the National Lottery Community Fund.

Barnsley Museums and Heritage Trust have secured £10,000 through the scheme, which will allow a space in Worsbrough Mill to be refurbished for existing and new volunteers to use.

The hub will provide a welcoming space for volunteers and staff, where they can relax, socialise, and feel part of the team.

It will also enable volunteer taster sessions to take place, encouraging new people from the local community to get involved. Barnsley Museums are particularly keen to encourage younger people and those new to the area to get involved in projects at the Mill and Country Park.

Volunteering has many benefits to physical and mental well-being by supporting friendships, learning new skills, advancing careers, and making people feel happier and healthier.

Cllr Robert Frost, Cabinet Spokesperson for Regeneration and Culture, said: “Volunteering plays a crucial part in the work of Barnsley Museums. Our volunteers offer skills, enthusiasm, and knowledge that enhance our five museum sites, and in return, we offer experiences and the opportunity to make new friends.  We are delighted to have secured this funding that will benefit the volunteers creating a modern, relaxing, and inviting space for them to spend time in.”
