The memory of the Co-op building lives on at Experience Barnsley

One of Barnsley’s most iconic buildings will be remembered at the town’s award winning museum, Experience Barnsley.

Island Corner, which meant so much to the people of the borough, holds memories for those who have worshipped, shopped, worked and socialised there since it was built in 1804.

Launch event was a great success

Mr Joseph Locke gathered the crowds at Experience Barnsley with a roaring welcome speech and a moving tribute to the town’s historical wealth: “But when we talk of history we must not only think of that which has passed away; no, we must think instead of what has been before and how this has laid the foundations for what is to come.”

Barnsley Museums & Heritage Trust Launches
