Project 14: A safe space at Worsbrough Mill

A massive thank you to all the wonderful volunteers who have helped to maintain and create welcoming, safe spaces for everyone to enjoy at Worsbrough Mill and Country Park. 

As part of this work, the brilliant Project14 group approached the team at Worsbrough Mill with the idea of creating a talking bench onsite, providing a dedicated space where visitors can stop, sit and enjoy a friendly chat. 

The project has given some of the existing benches around the site a fresh new look, with Project14’s logo given a special Worsbrough-inspired makeover. The design uses colours that complement the natural surroundings, while leaves collected from around the Country Park were printed directly onto the benches, creating a unique design inspired by the landscape. 

The newly refreshed benches can be found next to the willow arch and wishing tree, making them a lovely spot to pause and take in the surroundings. Whether you’re meeting a friend for a chat, taking some time for yourself or simply enjoying a quiet moment of reflection, the benches offer a welcoming place to stop and enjoy the parkland. 

We’re also incredibly grateful to Project14 for their generous donation of £100 to Barnsley Museums and Heritage Trust. The donation will help support the ongoing work at Worsbrough Mill, as well as contributing towards the materials used to create the benches. 

Projects like this show the difference that volunteers and community groups can make in helping to create spaces that are welcoming and meaningful for everyone.
