The festive season is fast approaching, and Barnsley Museums are bringing the sparkle with a host of heart-warming events across Cannon Hall Museum and Worsbrough Mill. From traditional storytelling and festive baking to Christmas markets and Santa visits, there’s something for everyone to enjoy this winter. 

Here’s your guide to a truly magical Christmas season in Barnsley! 

A Christmas Carol with Chris Cade 

Friday 6th & Saturday 7th December – Cannon Hall Museum 

Step into Cannon Hall ballroom and rediscover the timeless Dickens classic A Christmas Carol. Master storyteller Chris Cade brings Ebenezer Scrooge’s journey to life with warmth, wit, and a touch of audience participation! Whether you join in or simply sit back and enjoy, this enchanting performance will reignite your love of Christmas. Booking is essential. 

A Very Victorian Christmas 

Fridays & Saturdays – 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th, 20th & 21st December – Cannon Hall Museum 

Step back in time and discover the charm of a traditional Victorian Christmas. Join the museum’s nursery maid for festive storytelling, play with Victorian toys, and of course, meet Santa Claus himself! Share your Christmas wishes and take home a special gift – it’s a magical experience for families and little ones. Booking is essential. 

Stir-Up Sunday 

Saturday 23rd November – Cannon Hall Museum 

Start your Christmas preparations in true Victorian style! Take part in this hands-on experience in Cannon Hall’s historic kitchen, where you’ll make your own Christmas pudding to cook at home in time for the big day. Then, get creative in the Servants’ Hall decorating a festive biscuit – a perfect treat for all ages. Booking is essential. 

Christmas is Coming Market 

Saturday 23rd November – Cannon Hall Museum 

Kick off your Christmas shopping at the Christmas is Coming Market. Browse stalls from local makers and artisans offering handmade gifts, festive foods, crafts, and seasonal delights. It’s the ideal way to start the holidays surrounded by joy and community spirit. This is a free event. 

Festive Fur Photoshoot 

Saturday 14th December – Cannon Hall Museum 

Capture the perfect Christmas keepsake with your furry friend! Bring your pet along to Cannon Hall’s beautifully decorated Display House for a Festive Fur Photoshoot. Your “pawtrait” will be printed and mounted – a wonderful memento to treasure for years to come. This is a paid event, but o booking is required. 

Christmas Market 

Saturday 14th December – Cannon Hall Museum 

Enjoy another festive shopping day at Cannon Hall’s Christmas Market. With crafts, food, and seasonal gifts galore – plus a warm and welcoming atmosphere – it’s the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit. Pets are welcome too! This is a free event. 

Adults’ Fabulous Festive Baking 

Monday 2nd December – Worsbrough Mill 

Spend a cosy festive evening at Worsbrough Mill’s Tea Room, where you’ll make your very own mince pies under expert guidance from the Millers Tea Room team. While your delicious treats bake, enjoy a guided tour of the mill and learn about over 400 years of flour-making history. Round off the night with some Christmas cheer – and a well-earned glass of mulled wine! Booking is essential. 

Children’s Christmas Gingerbread Workshop 

Monday 9th December – Worsbrough Mill 

It’s time for little bakers to get creative! Kids can roll up their sleeves and join this fun, festive gingerbread-making workshop, where they’ll decorate their own seasonal treats to take home. A sweet way to celebrate Christmas and make lasting memories. Booking is essential.

And don’t forget – Cannon Hall Museum will be beautifully decorated for Christmas from 22nd November to 24th December, ready to fill your visit with sparkle and seasonal magic!
