New Community Art Display in Experience Barnsley
17th July 2025
Experience Barnsley are delighted to showcase artworks created by Patricia Wroe and Peter Hardy on a new community focused gallery wall in the museum.
The team at Deangate Care Home in Mapplewell contacted the museum after discovering the artistic talents of residents Patricia and Peter.
Patricia started painting when she was 89, and she is busy creating beautiful paintings, proving that art can be taken up at any time of life. She remembers entering a painting competition at the age of five, but didn’t return to art until her 80s.
Peter has had a lifelong interest in photography, and his work supports his wellbeing and provides a way of expressing himself through his lens. He is a passionate photographer whose love for the craft began in childhood. He said: “My passion came from my father, sitting with him developing photos in the shed. There’s something special about capturing a moment that could mean something different to each person who sees it.”
Patricia and Peter worked with local artist Charlotte Fairclough-Bell to develop the display which was officially revealed by the Mayor and Mayoress of Barnsley in a celebratory event for family and friends.
Both residents were born in Barnsley and have lived in the town all their lives.
