An update on building works at Cannon Hall Museum and Elsecar Heritage Centre

14th January 2025

We’re pleased to share that the works to Cannon Hall’s roof are making excellent progress and are on track to be completed by the spring. This timing aligns perfectly with plans to re-open the hall for the new season, welcoming visitors to experience our cherished landmark once again.

Meanwhile, at Elsecar Heritage Centre, several exciting projects are underway. Get more information and keep up to date on our Forging Ahead webpage.

We are in the process of consulting and developing plans for a new visitor centre at Elsecar. It promises a fresh and engaging experience for all visitors, drawing inspiration from the rich stories unearthed by the Building Bridges project.

Moreover, we have received cabinet approval for funding to improve drainage across the site. These improvements are crucial for maintaining the site’s infrastructure and will be implemented in phases alongside the public realm works scheduled for later in 2025. In addition, significant progress is being made on the building works at units 20 and 21 (the Ironworks and the adjacent building).

Cannon Hall Museum and Elsecar Heritage Centre are seeing great advancements in their respective projects. These developments not only preserve the historical and cultural essence of these sites but also enhance their appeal and accessibility for future visitors. We look forward to sharing these improvements with the public in the coming months.
