Remotely Digital [update]
9th August 2022
Our ‘Remotely Digital’ Archives project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, kick started in April 2022 with the recruitment of a freelancer providing project support for our Archivist and Volunteer Coordinator. So far, a total of 12 volunteers have signed up to work on the project. The ability to deliver this project remotely has helped to widen our volunteering opportunities to the far corners of the Borough.
We have delivered four training sessions, covering introduction to archives, transcriptions and creating online blogs and content.
The first batch being worked on is Worsbrough Voices oral histories. Alongside the transcribing work, volunteers will also be creating metadata for these sound recordings for cataloguing onto the CALM database.
These sound recordings reflect the life, stories, memories and experiences of residents living in Worsbrough. We look forward to when this collection is fully transcribed and catalogued by the volunteers enabling them to be shared with members of the public.
The project has also welcomed guest speakers from the National Fairground and Circus Archives and Wentworth Woodhouse.
We are still happy to take on any interested volunteers, get in touch at museumvolunteering@barnsley.gov.uk ‘
