Charity dinner raises thousands for Barnsley’s museums
22nd March 2018
Our first-ever charity dinner, hosted by Barnsley’s own poet laureate Ian McMillan, raised thousands of pounds to safeguard Barnsley’s museums and heritage.
146 people from across South Yorkshire came together at Elsecar Heritage Centre in Barnsley on Thursday 15th March to raise money and awareness for Barnsley Museums & Heritage Trust. We are delighted to announce that money raised from ticket sales, raffle tickets and a silent auction totalled over £8,000.
Guests were treated to performances by Barnsley-born folk star Kate Rusby and her musician husband Damien O’Kane. They also had the chance to experience life as an ancient Egyptian using virtual reality technology with Egyptologist and Professor Joann Fletcher. Both Kate and Joann are patrons of Barnsley Museum & Heritage Trust, along with author Mel Dyke.
